7 Habits of Successful People You Need to Adopt

Jim Rohn famously said, “Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.”

These disciplines are your habits, which determine whether you will succeed in life or not.

Apart from the element of luck, much of what makes the people highly successful involves the cultivation of certain good habits. Learning these habits and their proper implementation will help in achieving your desired level of success.

I’m sharing with you the 7 most effective habits of highly successful people which you need to adopt in order to achieve a high level of success.

1) Successful People Pre-plan Their Day

“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”
— Benjamin Frankilin

Planning your day beforehand can enable you to orchestrate a perfect day.

You can plan time to exercise, meditate, read your favorite book, learn some cool stuff, have some fun time with your family and friends, etc.

Success is never accidental. Hence, highly successful people don’t wait and hope for the desired results. Instead, they prepare, plan, and align their time with the most important goals.

Leonardo da Vinci once said, “People of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.”

2) They Are Goal-Oriented

“Success belongs to those who are goal-oriented, determined and persevaring.”
— Dr. T.P. Chia

Successful people tend to be habitual goal-setters. They dedicate themselves to working from a clear and predefined set of goals every day, making it a habit.

I would recommend you studying the 80 20 rule, also known as the Pareto Principle. It suggests, “20 percent of your activities will account for 80 percent of your results.

3) They Are Intensely Action-Oriented

“Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.”
— Conrad Hilton

Action orientation is the ability to develop and maintain a sense of urgency, and a bias for action. Being fast in whatever you do is one of the key ingredients to success.

Highly successful people are intensely action-oriented. They possess the ability to get on with a job and get it done really fast.

4) Successful People Prioritize Their Health

“No person may enjoy outstanding success without good health.”
— Napoleon Hill

Good health tends to be the first and foremost necessity for leading a successful, productive and stress-free life. Good nutrition and regular physical activity are essential for good health.

Exercising for at least 30 minutes a day could help in boosting brain health and cognitive activity.

Here are a few things that will help you with staying healthy:

Health truly is wealth! Take care of it religiously.

5) Successful People Are Self-Disciplined

“Self-discipline is the no.1 delineating factor between the rich, the middle class, and the poor.”
— Robert Kiyosaki

A person’s ability to discipline himself, to master and control himself, is the most important quality that leads him towards success.

The habit of self-discipline goes hand in hand with success in each and every area of life.

6) Successful People Read About Their Industry & Beyond

“Successful people have libraries. The rest have big screen TVs.”
— Jim Rohn

I don’t know of many high achievers who weren’t avid readers.

The Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett reads over 500 pages a day and claims that the habit of intense reading is the biggest contributor to his success.

The Co-founder and former CEO of Microsoft Bill Gates read over 50 books every year. You can find his recommended books at GatesNotes.

The infamous and legendary CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk used to read a book a day and taught himself rocket science by reading books.

Intense reading results in a higher IQ and EQ. It reduces stress, improves memory, builds vocabulary, and equip you with the skills related to your work and beyond.

7) Successful People Meditate

“Meditation is like a gym in which you develop the powerful mental muscles of calm and insight.”
— Ajahn Brahm

Meditation is the process of training your mind to focus and redirect your thoughts. It could be used to increase awareness of yourself and your surroundings.

Some benefits of meditation include:

  • Stress-reduction
  • Increased focus
  • Self-control
  • Improved sleep

I would suggest reading these 12 science-based benefits of meditation.

You made me realize that I should re-think about my habits. I actually never followed any of these habits except for Sharpen the saw . I have now started working on The 7 Habits . I observed one thing I and people around me often are reacting rather than responding. How could I tell my students to respond and not react when I was doing the same. Also I am trying to inculcate next two habits in me, so that I can understand these first and then set an example for my students. The time matrix is helping me to prioritize my things, I often ask myself whether I am in quadrant 2 or not. Yes, I synergize with my colleagues as by collaborative efforts the output achieved is better. These habits have made me more organized and focused. I am happy and thankful to you for making me realize the need of these 7 habits. This was a highly useful workshop and learning experience as it made me aware how I could make my life more meaningful and organized and also become effective in whatever I do. I learnt that we are ultimately responsible for our life and no one else is. I learnt how paradigms are so important because when we change the way we see things then automatically there will be a quantum change in the way we do things in our life. Our thinking and values need to be aligned with our principles. It is important to act and not react to any situation. We need to take ownership of our life. I choose to , I m going to should be the terms we use. Proactive people focus on their circle of influence and not circle of concern.
